The Emirati kandura is distinguished by its clean, elegant silhouette and subtle detailing, setting it apart from styles worn across the wider Gulf. Traditionally bright white and tailored from lightweight fabrics suited to the climate, the Emirati Kandura is collarless and features a simple tassel, known as the tarboosh, hanging from the neckline. Unlike in some neighbouring countries, the tassel is decorative rather than functional and is often scented with perfume or oud. The fit is typically slightly looser and more fluid than Saudi styles, creating a softer drape and more relaxed movement.

In Saudi Arabia, the thobe often has a stiffer collar and more structured cut, sometimes with cuffed sleeves similar to a shirt. Qatar is known for a sharper, more fitted silhouette and richer winter fabrics, while Omani dishdashas frequently feature colourful embroidery around the neckline and a longer tassel. In Kuwait and Bahrain, styles tend to sit somewhere between the Saudi and Emirati aesthetic, balancing structure with fluidity. Though similar at first glance, these nuances in cut, collar, fabric and finishing act as quiet markers of national identity and cultural heritage across the Gulf.
