Purple Long Jalabiya Kaftan
The Jalabiya is a loose, flowing garment traditionally worn by women across the GCC and wider Middle East, valued for both comfort and elegance. Typically ankle-length with wide sleeves and relaxed tailoring, jalabiyas are often crafted from lightweight fabrics such as cotton, silk or chiffon and decorated with embroidery, beadwork or metallic detailing. While historically associated with home dressing and family gatherings, modern jalabiyas now range from simple everyday styles to highly embellished versions worn for Ramadan, Eid celebrations, weddings and social occasions.
Across the Gulf, women commonly wear jalabiyas at home when hosting guests, during Ramadan evenings, at henna nights or while gathering with family and friends. In some settings, particularly among close family or women-only gatherings, they are worn without an abaya as elegant indoor attire. More formal styles are paired with jewellery, styled hair and heeled sandals, while simpler cotton versions are worn for comfort around the house. In countries such as United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, modern designers have reinterpreted the jalabiya with contemporary cuts, pastel palettes and luxury fabrics, turning it into a fashion category of its own that balances tradition with modern Gulf style.
